ECS Selected for Deloitte 2008 Technology Fast 500

Orlando, Fla., November 17, 2008 ” Engineering & Computer Simulations, Inc. announced that it has made the prestigious Technology Fast 500 list from Deloitte. The award is a ranking of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies in North America based on percentage of fiscal year revenue growth over five years (2003-2007).

“Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 recognizes technology companies who have achieved extraordinary growth in North America’s most innovative and competitive sectors,” said Phil Asmundson, Deloitte LLP vice chairman and national managing partner for Technology, Media and Telecommunications. “We congratulate ECS on this significant accomplishment.”

“Now more than ever, fast growth companies of all sizes are a bright spot not to be overlooked,” added Mark Jensen, national managing partner of Deloitte LLP’s Venture Capital Services. “Historically, it is the fastest growing businesses that spur innovation, job creation and economic growth in general.”

Growth percentages for the 2008 Technology Fast 500 companies ranged from 242 percent to 138,762 percent. The overall average growth of the Fast 500 companies was 3,043 percent, the highest since 2004 when Google topped the list, and up from 1,823 percent in 2007. The top five companies’ average growth rate was 90,540 percent.

“ECS’ growth represents the diversification of our advanced learning technologies”, says ECS President, Waymon Armstrong. “We expect to continue this growth as we add new commercial clients for our virtual world technologies.”

Qualifying Criteria
The Fast 500 ranks the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies in North America. It is compiled from Deloitte’s regional North American Fast 50 programs, nominations submitted directly to the Fast 500 and public company database research.

Companies are selected based on percentage revenue growth from 2003 to 2007. To be considered, Fast 500 and Fast 50 entrants must have the following criteria:

Must own proprietary intellectual property or proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company’s operating revenues or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to research and development of technology. Using other companies’ technology or intellectual property in a unique way does not qualify.

Base-year operating revenues must be at least $50,000 USD or CD, and current-year operating revenues must be at least $5 million USD or CD. Companies are required to submit tax returns or audited financial statements with their nominations to complete their eligibility.

Be in business a minimum of five years.

Be headquartered in North America. Subsidiaries or divisions are not eligible (unless they have some public ownership and are separately traded).

ECS, Selected to Bring Medical Training Applications to Baghdad

August26, 2008. Orlando, Fla. Virtual Worlds Developer, ECS, Selected to Bring Medical Training Applications to Baghdad August26, 2008. Orlando, Fla. Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) announced today that it received a $1.4 million contract award from the U.S. Army RDECOM Simulation and Training Technology Center (RDECOM-STTC) to adapt its US-Nexus (a National Guard sponsored program that provides a secure persistent virtual world capability for training and collaboration) to meet the US Army’s constantly evolving medical training requirements. A primary component of this work entails accessing the virtual world features through Internet enabled mobile devices which are becoming more prevalent in the Army’s workforce.

Through the development and implementation of Medical Nexus, ECS will demonstrate how various technologies can be blended and distributed to meet the Army Medical Department’s (AMEDD’s) training and education requirements. Medical Nexus will deliver instructional content that combines elements of persistent 3D virtual worlds, immersive learning environments, virtual classrooms, simulation-based training, and collaborative, online knowledge repositories. The program will also include development and incorporation of web 2.0 tools, technologies, processes and methodologies that takes best practices from the commercial world and integrates them into a comprehensive knowledge network.

The US Army RDECOM-STTC acknowledged that the program has the potential to provide a critical capability to our soldiers. “Having the ability to simultaneously deliver content, access just-in-time knowledge, and participate in a medically related community of practice, is a powerful tool in helping the Army prepare soldiers for current and future missions” said Beth Pettit, STTC Division Chief for Soldier Simulation Environments.

ECS will also investigate different methods of delivering instructional content through a mobile device and will demonstrate the potential of mobile devices to deliver rich, scenario based simulations that support adaptive learning. “Initially, our Mobile Medic Application will focus on providing simulations and content to support the educational requirements for Combat Lifesavers” stated Waymon Armstrong, Chief Executive Officer from ECS. Armstrong further stated “This application will also interface with the Army’s Medical Nexus through wireless internet capabilities inherent in many of today’s phones.”

Upon completion of the proposed research a “Mobile Medic test suite” will be deployed to medical professionals in Iraq to test and evaluate Medical Nexus content. The suite will consist of a server, laptops, and any other required hardware that will allow “stand-alone” operation of the Medical Nexus in cases where there is no Internet connectivity, and/or “connected” access to the hosted implementation of the Medical Nexus when there is an Internet connection available.

Orlando, Fla. Engineering & Computer Simulations, Inc., (ECS), in conjunction with the National Guard Bureau’s Joint Training Directorate (J-7), presented two briefings at the recent 2008 Federal Virtual Worlds Expo held at the National Defense University. ECS President, Waymon Armstrong, gave a presentation entitled “Weapons of Mass Instruction: The Emergency Management Nexus (EM Nexus)”. He discussed the legacy of virtual worlds and focused on the unique EM Nexus Massive Multiplayer Online Environment (MMOE) architecture designed to meet the National Guard and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) training requirements.

ECS Director of Engineering, Howard Mall, also presented at the expo. His discussion, entitled “Focusing the Emergency Management Nexus, elaborated on the necessity to focus on the training and collaborative features of the EM Nexus. The training theme put the EM Nexus design decisions at odds with those made for other MMO Gaming (MMOG) entertainment environments. This places EM Nexus in a unique position of being immediately relevant to the military’s needs, in addition to commercial corporate requirements.

Avatar-based instructional delivery will provide the Department of Homeland Security on-line/virtual world, 3D secure social network for training and education capability.

Orlando, Fla. May 7, 2008. Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS), headquartered in Orlando, Fla., announced today that it has received its first contract funded by the Department of Homeland Security. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Army RDECOM Simulation and Training Technology Center and the Department of Homeland Security, ECS will design a virtual classroom capability. The classroom will incorporate avatar-based instructional delivery and, when fielded, will provide the Department of Homeland Security a 3D secure social network for on-line/ virtual world training and education.

ECS will design and deliver the virtual classroom capability to support critical curriculum and educational goals using web-based instruction. Instructors and students will interact and collaborate within the 3D secure social network environment controlling representations of themselves called avatars. Using enhanced communications through Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and instant messaging in the virtual world, real-time information exchange of presentations, information, and collaboration takes place and enables individuals and/or groups of individuals to receive realistic and timely training and mission rehearsal for disaster response and other important missions.

When complete, the virtual classroom will be integrated into the Joint State Response Training System’s (JSRTS) Emergency Management Nexus (EM-Nexus), the National Guard’s custom-built virtual world, also under development by ECS.

LTC Ray Compton, Acting Director of RDECOM’s Simulation and Training Technology Center, stated “The virtual classroom is a critical step in advancing online training and education initiatives.” He added, “Leveraging the National Guard EM Nexus program allows the Army and Department of Homeland Security to get increased capability and at the same time ensure interoperability of programs.”

ECS president, Waymon Armstrong stated that “ECS is pleased to provide this 3D secure social network program which will increase web-based learning, collaboration and provide a classroom of the future’ for the Department of Homeland Security, the Army and ultimately increased functionality of the National Guard’s EM NEXUS program.”
