The Pentagon’s mandatory human trafficking course will be a testbed for an experimental virtual world for the Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) training system.

The goal is to test whether a virtual world is a more efficient delivery method than the current practice of using the classified SIPRnet and the unclassified NIPRnet and Internet Public Portal, according to JKO deputy program manager Marty Vozzo. The virtual world would be cloud-based and accessible over the Web.

The Combating Traffic in Persons course was chosen first because it is high-volume: all Department of Defense military and civilian personnel must take the training, which takes about an hour to complete. There were 36,000 course completions last year.

The virtual world test will be conducted in the spring, before final evaluation by the Office of the Secretary of...

During more than a decade of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. military chaplains often found themselves caught between heaven and hell: one moment leading a prayer service, the next dodging enemy fire to be at the side of a dying soldier.

From loss, grief and post-traumatic stress to plain old holiday blues, combat chaplains have seen it all in responding to calls for help from soldiers struggling with issues of faith and doubt, life and death.

Now, with the U.S. out of Iraq, operations winding down in Afghanistan and military spending under...

September 10, 2012 - Orlando, FL  Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) announced delivery of its Interactive Multimedia Instruction for Installation Status Report (ISR) courses to the Army National Guard's Professional Education Center (PEC) in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

This delivery represents the first of a multi-phase upgrade to their existing training. Under the contract, ECS enhanced the traditional page-turner courseware with Level 3 interactivity, including problem solving of complex scenarios. ECS added the capability for the learner to interact with required, but cumbersome forms inherent in the ISR process. The culmination of the courseware was the immersion of the learner into a Level 4 engaging, high fidelity 3D simulation where the student must assess and record findings in a Government installation.

The Army National Guard's decision to contract ECS to deliver this important training leverages...

September 5, 2012, Orlando, FL - The RANGER solitaire board game is a top-selling wargame that people have played for over 30 years. The realistic game is widely popular with military members around the world. It has also proven to be a success with cross-over players who do not play traditional wargames. Separate versions of the game simulate patrolling in wooded, mountain, jungle, and desert terrain.

"The on-line version of RANGER will enable the player to focus on playing the game itself instead of having the additional task of dealing with a board wargame's administration," said Joe O'Connell, VP of Business Development, ECS. "The rich web-based interface of the game, along with RANGER's accurate representation of leading a modern small unit patrol, will allow the player to enjoy this simulation as never before."

Omega Games will debut the on-line version of RANGER at the upcoming Maneuver...
