Combat Casualty Care Training Comes ON-LINE
Army’s Tactical Combat Casualty Care - Distributed through Army Knowledge Online

San Antonio, Texas.  May 6, 2007.

The Army Research, Development & Engineering Command, Simulation & Training Technology Center (RDECOM STTC), The Medical Research Materiel Command (MRMC), and Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) will feature the Tactical Combat Casualty Care program at the U.S. Army’s Medical Department (AMEDD) EMS Educator’s Conference in San Antonio, Texas May 6-12, 2007.  The TC3 simulation, developed by ECS under contract with RDECOM STTC will be on display in the RDECOM booth, No. 15, at the conference.  RDECOM and ECS will deliver the TC3 software to the AMEDD Center and School on May 6th.  The featured software will receive wide distribution as one of the Army’s first training and simulation programs to be distributed on the Army’s Knowledge Online system – making the program available to approximately 50,000 combat medics.

RDECOM STTC (Orlando, FL), in partnership with MRMC (Fort Detrick, MD) and with AMEDD Center and School (Fort Sam Houston, TX), initiated the research effort to develop enhanced tools and technologies for training combat medics.  LTC Ray Compton, Acting Director of the RDECOM’s Simulation & Training Technology Center, stated that, “Research for training combat medics has been one of our top training objectives for the last several years.  The TC3 program gives Soldiers realistic training simulations to rehearse their skills under stress, and ultimately will save lives on the battlefield.”

The research and development contract was awarded to ECS on October 20, 2004.  The TC3 provides combat medics the training they need to ensure successful treatment of wounded warriors on the battlefield.  The program combines advanced interactive training with distributed learning and 3D simulations to produce a hands-on trainer that immerses students into scenarios to teach proper casualty treatment procedures from the moment the first responder arrives on the scene until the casualty is evacuated to a treatment facility.   “The TC3 simulation allows combat medics to practice focused life-saving skills.  The medics must triage a group of patients, determining which patients require immediate care, and administer that care. Their actions must be applied in the correct order to save as many lives as possible,” said Ms. Beth Pettitt, Division Chief for Soldier Simulation Environments at the STTC.  The program research included lessons learned from real combat experiences from recent deployed combat medics and the Department of Combat Medic Training.

The TC3 simulation provides tactical combat casualty care training that may be used by all military service combat medics and civilian first responders as well.  "The development of this system contributes to a comprehensive training program developed for the Combat Medic by the AMEDD Center and School," said Col. Patricia Hastings, Director of the Department of Combat Medic Training.   "Alliances with the RDECOM, other military organizations, and industry partners give our 68W the best training possible to bring back patients not victims."

Waymon Armstrong, ECS President and CEO said “Combat medics providing treatment often must do so while still under hostile fire.  The TC3 Simulation allows the medics to complete their training and mission rehearsal exercises using unique game-based training programs.”   He added that “ECS is proud to be part of the training solution for our combat medics.”
