June 5, 2012. Orlando, Fla. Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) announced today its fifth consecutive year under contract delivering Automated Critical Asset Management System (ACAMS) Virtual Learning Environments to DHS Office of Infrastructure Protection.
Under the provisions of the contract, ECS provides research and training support to the Critical Asset Protection Technical Assistance Program, or CAPTAP, which is operated by the Office of Infrastructure Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. CAPTAP provides training to federal, state, and local governments, as well as the private sector, about critical infrastructure protection and the Automated Critical Asset Management System, or ACAMS.
"A significant amount of CAPTAP training is computer-based," stated Frank Colletti, ECS Program Manager. "We will continue providing interactive online learning materials for CAPTAP students and studying the effectiveness of those materials for the diverse training audience served by CAPTAP."
ECS will also continue working with the CAPTAP training staff to incorporate virtual world capabilities into the CAPTAP curriculum. Mr. Colletti further explained, “Learners using ECS’ browser-based virtual worlds platform will be able to participate in virtual field trips during which they visit realistic and highly detailed sites that represent typical critical infrastructure assets. The fidelity of the learning experience and the ability to repeat it when needed should improve retention and mastery of the knowledge and skills being trained, and should enhance the transfer of the skills to the workplace.”
ECS will conduct research to assess and document the training effectiveness of the virtual world component and its value in the context of the strategic approach to training that guides the CAPTAP program.
