The 3D Digital Character Artist is a highly motivated and multi-talented person working within a close-knit development team producing serious games and simulations. This artist will create a wide variety of 3D game and simulation content primarily focused on characters, avatars, organic models, and animations. This artist may also occasionally support generalist modeling tasks including props, texturing, and hard surface modeling as well. This artist is typically responsible for a particular asset from concept to completion. The 3D Digital Character Artist works within a team following Agile/Scrum process with iterative sprint development and can adapt and work effectively in varying structures and teams.

  • Create high quality, realistic 3D assets that adhere to established requirements, art direction, and specifications
  • Gather, create, organize and work from reference data (photos, schematics, style sheets, data specifications, etc.) to create accurate and appropriately scaled 3D models and textures
  • Maintain visual standards, while working within technical restrictions for most efficient rendering, including poly count, material count, draw calls, etc.
  • Work with other 3D artists and engineers to integrate assets into the game engine and build final game/simulations
  • Must be able to work independently and in groups or teams to troubleshoot problems, and resolve issues
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with artists, software engineers, instructional designers, and managers


Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong portfolio showcasing best and most recent work
  • 2 years in the game or simulation industry, or an equivalent work/team project environment
  • Adept in basic and advanced 3D skills using 3ds Max, Maya, or comparable commercial 3D modeling package(s)
  • Proficient at photo-realistic texture creation using Photoshop, Substance, or similar 2D software
  • Experience in techniques for creating current-gen game shaders and multi-textured materials
  • Ability to take constructive criticism resulting from peer reviews, quality assurance, game testing, client feedback, and art direction
  • AA, AS, BA, BFA, or equivalent professional certificate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Common Access Card or DOD Security Clearance (if required)

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with following game editors/engines, in Unity 3D and/or Unreal
  • Experience with high resolution sculpting in ZBrush or Mudbox
  • Experience with technical art, such as shaders, scripting, rigging, and lighting
  • Experience with game design, level design, storyboarding, script writing, etc
  • Experience with 2D animation, graphic design, compositing, or visual effect (vFx) production
  • Experience with video editing or compositing tools, such as Premiere, After Effects, or comparable programs
  • Foundation in any traditional art skills including Life Drawing, Sculpting, Composition, or Photography
