Software Engineer, Florida

Description

ECS is seeking a creative problem solver who has experience developing AR and VR experiences for mobile devices. The ideal candidate will be able to work with a small team of other developers to author multiple AR/VR experiences for adult learners. This software engineer must contribute to the whole development process from requirements, design, coding, bug fixing, quality assurance, and delivery. ECS wants a self-starter with initiative, and great communications skills who will work well on a small tight knit team working remotely. This position falls under the supervision of the Development Director. This is a full-time position, working virtually/remotely but preferably in the Central Florida area for periodic in-person meetings at the Orlando Office. This position supports educational professional services for the Air Force University in Alabama.

  • Create great interactive software and serious games that teach and train adult learners
  • Practice good software processes to create extraordinary products
  • Communicate with the team and management on progress and problems
  • Ensure the code is written to standard, well documented, and logically organized in version control
  • Analyze functional requirements in order to develop software requirements, related design, and code
  • Assess severity of problems, determines corrective action, resolves technical problems, performs fault isolation, and implements solutions
  • Contribute in the writing of documentation, reports, manuals, and procedures
  • Keep abreast of industry standards, best practices, and other improvements in programming techniques
  • Engage in continuous self-improvement of technical skills and toolsets
  • Identify and recommend value-added changes to existing coding practices, standards and tools
  • Show commitment to company values, processes, and procedures

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Game Design, or related field from an accredited college or university and/or equivalent experience
  • Ability to program in a variety of object oriented computer languages: C#, C++, and/or Java
  • Development Experience with 3D Game Engines; Unity preferred, but also consider Unreal, CryEngine, etc.
  • Experience developing Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR) including GearVR, Vive, Oculus, HoloLens, Magic Leap, or Windows Mixed Reality Devices (or any other related XR platform)
  • 2 + years of team experience programming serious games, simulations, or virtual worlds
  • Experience in simulation or game programming such as behavior development, physics, or Artificial Intelligence
  • Familiarity with full stack web technologies such as PHP, MySQL, Tomcat, Linux, Apache, Ruby
  • Programming experience developing native mobile applications for Android and iOS (Objective-C, Swift)
  • Proficiency with Revision Control Software such as SVN, Git, Perforce
  • Experience with Task and Issue tracking software such as Atlassian Jira
  • Communicating through documentation, meetings, code comments, bug and task trackers
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, keen attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines consistently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
