November 19, 2021: Orlando, FL – Shane Taber, Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) Vice President of Operations – Orlando, is pleased to announce that two ECS training products have been selected as finalists in the Serious Games Showcase & Challenge (SGS&C). A finalist in the business category and developed for the U.S. Army Program Executive Office Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Project Manager Synthetic Environment, Tactical Combat Casualty Care Simulation (TC3Sim) teaches and reinforces the concepts of combat medical training. Designed in support of the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Operations School in Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Joint Inspection Simulator (JI Sim), a finalist in the government category, teaches and strengthens the concepts of Joint Inspection.

TC3Sim uses skill-driven scenarios to teach and evaluate a student’s knowledge of the essential tactics, techniques, and procedures required of an Army Combat Medic (68W) or Combat Life Saver (CLS). Each scenario in TC3Sim is a short, goal-oriented exercise that provides users the opportunity to train on key tasks within specific missions, such as the ability to assess casualties, perform triage, provide initial treatment, and prepare a casualty for evacuation under battlefield conditions.
JI Simulator uses cargo and environments that could be presented in a real-world situation to teach and evaluate a user’s ability to accomplish Joint Inspection procedures. Users select from pre-configured scenarios with cargo that would be shipped on a specific aircraft, or a free play scenario with cargo of their choosing. The cargo will then be presented on a flight line and the user must identify properly prepared cargo versus cargo with discrepancies. Users provide feedback, present it to an Increment Monitor, receive immediate feedback, and then may review their after-action review.

Both TC3Sim and JI Sim are updated versions of successful legacy programs. This version of TC3Sim features longer scenarios extending from Care Under Fire through Tactical Evacuation. The accuracy and detail of medical interventions have been improved to reflect the latest doctrine and tactics and the simulation now represents multiple branch services and roles including CLS and 68W. The latest version of JI Sim has been updated to support both desktop and WebGL and includes major graphical content updates, including environments, vehicles, characters, and user interfaces, as well as additional vehicle and cargo assets for an increased level of detail within the inspection tasks.

Taber says: “We are proud of these established ECS products that support our military’s needs with game-based training. These serious games serve as excellent examples of the use of modern game-based technology and development methodologies that are ideal for producing relevant, compelling, and engaging training content. Both TC3Sim and JI Sim can be deployed on multiple platforms which allows Warfighters to train on-demand from any location, supporting both initial training and just-in-time refresher training.”

SGS&C is known as the foremost setting for recognition of excellence in the field of Serious Games development. The SGS&C finalists are evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges and attendees also vote for the People’s Choice winner during I/ITSEC, held in Orlando, FL, from November 29 through December 3, 2021. The SCS&C winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony at I/ITSEC on December 2.
