Enhancing Learning Experiences for Aviation Teams

ECS has been integrating maintenance training programs for the AH-64D Apache Longbow and the AH-64E Apache Guardian since 2018 under a contract with the U.S. Army Program Executive Office – Aviation (PEO Aviation) Project Manager Apache (PM Apache) office. Our team is delivering additional upgrades and training analyses for the AH-64E to improve Soldier training. These aviation maintenance training and modernization programs, Apache Helicopter Logistics Analysis, have been implemented by ECS subject matter experts (SMEs) and instructional systems designers (ISDs) through the development of courseware and instructor-led training that covered both airframes.

Our SMEs and ISDs are collaborating to develop a Total Task Inventory List (TTIL) and Critical Task List to deliver additional training specifically on the AH-64E. This new scope of services includes conducting a training analysis to assist the 128th Aviation Brigade (AVN BDE), stationed at Fort Eustis, VA, to build a full AH-64E course for maintainers. The aviation training currently teaches a combined course of AH-64D and AH-64E aircraft configurations; this new training initiative is critical, as the field is close to converting its fleet of Apache aircraft from the AH-64D to the new AH-64E and will require that the field of maintainers be trained on the newer platform.

Following the same procedures that led to the previous success, the team will investigate new ways to improve the science of learning and task retention with a secondary goal of lowering recurring training costs. This will ensure that the knowledge and the skills that a Soldier needs to operate and to maintain the aircraft will always be available to them.
